OUR WORK

MCHARDY

The McHardy project is a renovation of a typical Vancouver Special into an open, bright, and functional home suited for a young family with a grandparent living downstairs. The layout supports shared living while maintaining privacy, and practical features such as hidden pull-out storage underneath the stairs .

One of the client’s main goals was to achieve net zero performance. This was accomplished through triple-glazed windows, air-tight construction, and a solar PV system, integrated directly into the renovation. Together, these strategies created a durable, efficient home that adapts to multigenerational living while significantly reducing energy use.

The kitchen was designed to be bright, efficient, and highly functional, with careful attention to storage. Specific cabinetry was planned to house the client’s small appliances, keeping the counters clear and the space uncluttered.

Custom pull-out recycling and garbage systems were also integrated, making everyday tasks more seamless and organized. The palette was kept white and minimal, enhancing natural light and giving the space a clean, open feel that contributes to the overall sense of brightness throughout the home.

The primary bath was designed to reflect the client’s vision of a spa-like retreat, combining both a tub and a shower within a limited footprint. To maximize space, we created a shared wet area that accommodates both, using a minimal 1.5” raised transition from the dry zone. This approach not only connects the two areas visually but also makes the room feel more open and expansive, achieving a sense of calm and simplicity within a compact layout.
